Sorry for the late notice, I just received the inviteThe National Scenic Visitors Center would like to invite you to visit
the Earthwalk Explorer walkable map at the Bethlehem Campus of
Northampton Community College. This is a unique, family-friendly
experience that’s both fun and educational. NCC is hosting an extended
appearance of the Explorer this summer to share it with residents,
students and community groups. *You’re invited for Friday, July 29,
from 4 to 6pm. *
The Earthwalk Explorer is an 8′ × 16′, 3D topographical map of the
eastern US from New Hampshire to North Carolina. Visitors walk across
the mountain ranges and valleys like benevolent giants. In a half-hour
program, visitors experience an Explore Mode revealing our rivers,
parks, forests, cities and highways – and two colorful Geoshows with
Native American themes. Over 18,000 visitors have enjoyed the Explorer
in its appearances throughout the Commonwealth and at the State
Capitol. NSVC’s analysis of surveys show a 96% approval rating, and all
reported gaining knowledge from the experience.
The Earthwalk Explorer was built at the NCC Fab Lab, with partnering
from Lehigh University, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Lehigh
Valley Community Foundation, Counties of Northampton and Lehigh, the
Baker Foundation, Cloud Mill LLC and the Lenape Nation of PA. This is
the first of three maps to be created by the National Scenic Visitors
Center, a 501©3 nonprofit. NSVC intends to create the world’s largest
walkable relief map of the entire United States – 100 yards long – in
three phases. More information can be found at
www.nsvc.us, on Facebook
at National Scenic Visitors Center or via email to info@nsvc.us.
Light refreshments will be served.
